Thank you for contacting me in support of a public option in health care reform. I am honored to represent you, and I appreciate your active participation in our legislative process. Your involvement helps me more effectively represent you and Illinois’ Fourteenth District.

 I agree with you. Our health insurance system is in need of improvement. Currently, costs are doubling every eight years and for far too long, citizens with pre-existing conditions have been denied coverage.

As we can all agree, the lack of meaningful competition, in any business-setting, leads to an unfair advantage for those providing that service and puts consumers in the unenviable position of paying more. That’s why I support a public option to ensure competition among health insurance providers.

 Hearing from the families I serve is vital to doing my job right.
